OUR SACRED HEART PARISH VISION

Our vision for Sacred Heart Parish is to be the home that nurtures your faith journey with Jesus Christ.

OUR SACRED HEART MISSION GROUPS

Welcome the Community – The intent of this group is to reach out to those who may have lost contact, who do not yet know of us, or who are visiting us, to help understand who and what we are. Within this is a fundamental element of hospitality – but it is not ‘donuts’. We are seeking connection on a spiritual level. Sign up to be a part of the Welcome mission!

Worship Together – This group is chartered with all things Liturgical. It encompasses the environment, the Altar Society, music, the Ministers for Mass, and all special prayers such as Adoration and Taize. Sign up to be a part of the Worship Mission!

Grow our Catholic Faith – The focus here is to help educate and form the entire community. Through this group we implement the family faith formation programs, sacramental preparation, parish retreats and missions, and F.I.R.E national speaker series. The first two items are typically geared toward families with school-age children. The addition three are meant to be for the entire parish community. Sign up to be a part of the Grow Mission!

Build our Parish Family – These activities are geared toward growing the sense of who we are as a Christian community. They include our various social groups, such as the Men’s Club, Women’s Club, YLI (Young Ladies Institute – which is an external organization but directs much of its work toward our Sacred Heart – the host parish). Our Men’s Club hosts our annual Palm Sunday pancake breakfast, a Cioppino Dinner, typically a large concert and a host of other activities. They maintain the vineyard and produce our sacramental wine. The women’s club has a large Boutique they sponsor each year. The focus of this discipleship is internal, meant to grow us spiritually, through fun and fundraising activities. Sign up to be a part of the Build Mission!

Act as Christians in the World – This group focuses on Social Concerns, charity and justice. Through this group we offer prayer opportunities to unite us with other organizations and churches in acts which impact the world external of our parish. Within this group we are very active in the Sacred Heart Community Services, developing a relationship with West Valley Services, Martha’s Kitchen, Casa de Clara, 40 Days for Life, and various points of activism regarding Life issues. Sign up to be a part of the Act Mission!

Sacred Heart School – Our parish school remains one of our main formations of discipleship. Developed toward integrating teaching, the children learn course curriculum through the lens of our Catholic Christian faith tradition. This is true for both those  who are baptized Catholic, as well as other faith traditions. The school children attend Mass weekly. They are encouraged to be altar servers, members of the choir, and occupy other roles during the Thursday and Sunday class Masses. Sign up to be a part of the School Mission!

We Are Living Our Mission To:

OUR SACRED HEART PARISH GOALS

• Attract and retain members
• Deepen the faith of our membership
• Actively support and serve our community

OUR SACRED HEART PARISH CHALLENGE

Every mission group, program and event under it is challenged to catch F.I.R.E. (form, inspire, reveal and evangelize) with the purpose to re-engage, re-energize and re-discover the genius of Catholicism and nurture our faith journey with Jesus Christ.

OUR SACRED HEART PARISH HISTORY

Sacred Heart Parish has been established since 1951, but our ecclesial roots date back to 1878 when Jesuit priests from Santa Clara University began celebrating Mass for area Catholics in the home of pioneer Hanna McCarty. Two years later a chapel was constructed and in 1895 a small church on Big Basin Way was dedicated. Approx. 9 years after the community gained parish status, Geary Hall was built, which served as the church building until the current church was completed and dedicated in 1970. Our parish school celebrated the 50th anniversary of its founding in 2007. The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur staffed our school for more than 40 years. The chapel in our parish center is dedicated to their foundress, Saint Julie Billart.

OUR SACRED HEART PARISH PRAYER

Lord God, we rejoice in the gifts of love we have received from the heart of Jesus, your Son. Open our minds to welcome your word. Open our hearts in praise and thanks.Open our lives in loved-filled service of our brothers and sisters. Make us one in the heart of your Son. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
